How this page knows. Australia has no public real-time incident feed, so these fires are satellite detections (VIIRS, twice daily) clustered into incidents — not a fire service's log. A small fire between passes, or one under cloud, is not here. Each detection is filed under the nearest state centroid rather than a boundary test, so close to a border it can land on the neighbour's page. Fire-weather and air-quality figures are modelled at this same state (Western Australia).

Fire detections from NASA FIRMS (VIIRS), clustered into incidents by us. Region centroids are area-weighted from public boundary datasets; a fire is attributed to the nearest one. Fire-weather risk is our own estimate (Canadian FWI on Open-Meteo forecasts), not an official warning — for those see your national meteorological service and fire authority. In an emergency call 112, the single European emergency number.
